Adding to the controversy swirling around Edi Rama and the Socialist Party, former Socialist leader and prime minister Fatos Nano said that the opposition Socialist Party was ill and a doctor was needed to take care of it.
Reading between the lines, political observers noted Nano, who lead the party for 15 years, was speaking of himself. Edi Rama took power in 2005 after the Socialists lost in general elections and Nano resigned from both posts.
Nano has made clear he would like to run for president as the opposition candidate in next parliamentary presidential elections in June, something which has been harshly opposed by his opponents in the Socialist party as well as other leftist allies.
