TIRANA, Nov. 27 – Albania’s national library celebrated Tuesday its 85th birthday.
The library holds the written and cultural heritage of the country.
Senior officials and ministers, including foreign diplomats took part at the ceremony.
The national library was inaugurated Nov. 28, 1922.
Top manager Aurel Plasari remembered some of his predecessors in the post, like Karl Gurakuqi and Sotir Kolea before World War II, Haki Stërmilli and Aleks Buda after the war, who “have left significant traces in enriching this institutions, especially the collection of the Albano logy.”
The government has also allocated one million dollars to upgrade the library’s environment and technology. The national library has more than one million titles and serves to some 5,000 members. It normally circulates 100,000 titles a year.
