A comedy by Shakespeare, The taming of the shrew will stage at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana on March 5, 2016 at 19:00. After staging several plays such as Karnavalet e Korà§à«s, 14 vjeà§ dhà«ndà«r, Nuse nà« thes, Tri mendje nà« ankand, etc, director Elma Doresi will bring on stage one of the earliest Shakespeare’s comedies, which is considered as one of the writer’s most controversial works. With stage design by Genc Shkodrani and costume design by Berina Kokona, the comedy will star Gladiola Harizaj, Helidon Fino, Sokol Angjeli, Devis Muka, Klea Huta, Neritan Lià§aj, Klodian Hoxha, Lulzim Zeqja, Mehdi Malkaj, Merkure Bozgo, Genti Deà§ka, Vangjel Toà§e, Erjona Kakeli, Adelina Muà§a, and Ermela Ruri who is also the assistant director.
Believed to have been written between the years of 1590 and 1592, The taming of the Shrew tells the love story of Petruchio and Katherina. The play has been adapted for stage, opera, ballet, and musical theatre various times. One of the most well-known musical adaptations is Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, and the The Taming of the Shrew movie in 1967 starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You is also believed to be partly based on Shakespeare’s play.
