TIRANA, April 20 – A troupe of actors of the Albanian National Theatre has traveled to France to stage the “Barber of Seville” comedy in the city of Lorient. The comedy was premiered in Tirana in April 2007 by French director and stage designer Eric Vigner and Albania’s Vasian Lami as assistant director. Some of Albania’s most renowned actors including Luiza Xhuvani, Roland Trebicka, Neritan Licaj perform in the comedy which will be staged from April 27 to 29 in the Lorient theatre.
The Barber of Seville (Le Barbier de S귩lle) is a French play by Pierre Beaumarchais, with original music by Antoine-Laurent Baudron.
The National Theatre said the tournament is part of the institution’s goal of promoting its artistic values in Albania and abroad.
The exchange of experience with France is the first project held in the frame of Albania’s membership to the Union of the Theatres of Europe.
Earlier this month, Albanian actor Mirush Kabashi performed the “True apology of Socrates” monodrama in Paris receiving critical acclaim. Kabashi has successfully staged the monodrama written by Greece’s Kostas Varnalis more than 100 times in Albania and abroad since 1997 when it was premiered.
The National Theatre’s second project is its participation next June in Germany’s prestigious festival of Wiesbaden with the “Allegretto Albania” play written by Stefan Capaliku and directed by Altin Basha. The National Theatre says it will also cooperate with the regional national theatres of Greece and Macedonia during this year.
The theatre has agreed with Greece’s Thessaloniki theatre to exchange premieres, artists and plays. Under the agreement, five Albanian plays will be translated into Greek and five Greek pieces into Albania.
The exchange of experience will start with Albanian troupe performing the Electra tragedy in the Thessaloniki theatre next October.
