TIRANA, Dec. 1 – Five NATO member countries’ ambassadors visited Albania last week to talk with local officials about their reforms ahead of possible membership into the alliance next year.
Ambassadors of Italy, Greece, Spain, Norway and Romania had meetings with top Albanian officials including the Parliament Speaker, Prime Minister, and Foreign and Defense ministers during a two-day visit to the country.
They were invited by the foreign ministry to have a close look at the country’s progress in reforms and also discuss its efforts at integration into the alliance, according to a statement. Albania expects to be invited as a full NATO member at next year’s Bucharest summit.
However, there has been no NATO pledge on that and the alliance has urged Tirana, and also Croatia and Macedonia to further work on their reforms. NATO has also said every country will be evaluated based upon their personal performance.
