New ambassadors nominated

TIRANA, April 16 – Following a two-year silence President Alfred Moisiu has nominated ambassadors in some countries. Ruhi Ado will be the new ambassador to Sweden. Ado is back in the diplomatic service after an eight year absence. He has been before ambassador to the Netherlands during the Democratic party’s reign in 1992-1997. Tonin Gjuraj was nominated ambassador to Israel and Margarita Gega a representative to the Council of Europe. Gjuraj enters the diplomatic service with this post while Gega has worked before in the service. It is also believed that there will be new ambassadors to the posts at the European Union, NATO, Britain and at the OSCE. There is also a vacant place for the ambassador in France. Recent clashes between the government and the president had resulted into a slowdown of the nomination at the new posts or their delay. In some cases Moisiu had not accepted to nominate the persons offered by the government, or better say, by the foreign ministry. The country has still to nominate ambassadors in some countries like Turkey, which has been vacant in the last two years.
