TIRANA, Nov. 29 – Albanian authorities opened the country’s new neurosurgery center this week, constructed through a $3.5 million grant from the state budget. The center new center meets EU standards.
Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha, a heart doctor by trade, said his government was reconstructing the health system through offering additional funds that would make it possible for Albanians to enjoy the services they deserve.
Albania’s public health system has for decades offered very poor standards. But in the last few years Albanians have also had a chance to use a parallel private health system. This still being one of the poorest countries in Europe, however, few can afford the private hospitals.
