TIRANA, May 24 – Albanian household and business consumers will sign new electricity contracts with Distribution System Operator, CEZ Shperndarje, starting from next September. This is confirmed by Ministry of Economy. Sources also say that along with the new drinking water contract, the two most basic services for Albanian consumers will improve considerably. The new draft contract, a copy of which has been made available on the Energy Regulatory Entity’s website, obliges CEZ to provide 24/7 power supply and compensate household and business consumers according to the regulation on “quality of distribution service and sale of electricity”– unless the power is cut due to extenuating circumstances, safety conditions, planned repairs, and cuts originating from the transmission system. The contract allows consumers to file complaints when overcharged and receive compensation in the coming two months if a mistake has been made when reading power meters or processing data. Meanwhile, Albania’s Energy Regulatory Entity (ERE) has approved a new method of calculating economic damage caused by illegal intervention in the grid.
