TIRANA, Aug. 3 – Albanai’s new President, Bamir Topi, held a meeting with media representatives in an effort to create new relations with them as the new President.

Topi repeated that the foundation of his work would be respect for the constitution and of the country’s laws, along with efforts to be very transparent and open to the media, which he considered a promoter of the society’s emancipation.

Topi said that he would repeatedly consult with the media due to his respect for its active role, especially during his election process. He called the media part of the infrastructure of the democratic institutions.

It is very obvious that one of Topi’s main duties will be keeping the political balance in the ever-squabbling political arena in the country.

Topi was elected on July 20 after a group of opposition lawmakers broke their coalition’s alliance not to take part in the vote of a presidential candidate from the governing Democratic Party. They belonged to a group of lawmakers supporting former opposition Socialist Party leader Fatos Nano, a move that may seemingly create internal problems in the party.

Topi also introduced his two close associates in his daily work: Aleksander Flloko as secretary general of the presidency, and Dashamir Xhaxhiu as the chief of cabinet.
