DURRES, March.20- A significant 73 percent of the water gained form the natural springs of Fush롋uqe and Fush롋ruj묠is wasted before it reaches its intended targets in the Durres District. Despite recent investments in the field, wastes have continued due to illegal interferences in the distribution network. This waste is transformed into a loss to the water consumer of Durres and Kruja who still has to pay for the entire amount released from the production unit. A study released by the World Bank, which remains the largest interested investor in water projects. The system of water and sewerages is intended to be completely decentralized and the government intends to apply more transparency for the procedures so that the interests of water consumers are being represented as well. WB study explains that the reason why some villages suffer water shortages is precisely water waste in the illegal interferences. Two years ago when the German company “Berlinwasser” decided to measure the water consumption level it reached a conclusion that one of the communes in the Durres region uses 9 times more water than the entire community of New York inhabitants and still complained of having to travel to get drinking water. Humorously the WB study has compared the main tubes connecting Kruja sources to Durres to the river Nile that provides water for the entire agricultural sites around it.
