TIRANA, Nov. 12 – Bota, a feature film directed by Albania’s Iris Elezi and Thomas Logoreci has been announced the winner of the fourth edition of the Albanian Film Week in New York.
Bota, which has also been recently selected as Albania’s submission for the 88th Academy Awards for Best Foreign language Film in the 2016 Oscars, was announced the best feature film in the festival which showcased thirty-two Albanian films from Oct. 30 to Nov. 5.
Awards were also given for the best director, actor, short film and documentary.
Mira Krasniqi, the festival’s director, described the fourth edition as a success for the promotion of the Albanian cinema in the U.S.
“The screening of Albanian movies is making the Albanian cinema more and more attractive and creating opportunities for cooperation among emerging artists,” she says.
Founder Mrika Krasniqi started Albanian Film Week in 2012 with the goal of showcasing the best of Albanian cinema to New York. AFW presents the city with a diversity of Albanian cinematic creation from around the world to raise the profile of its talents, culture and film industry. Its mission is to transform the way people see Albanian culture through film and promote cultural understanding and encourage artistic development and growth.
Each year AFW presents Red Carpet screenings of feature, short and documentary films, followed by Q&A, workshops, reception with artists and organizers, VIP after-party and Award Night Gala.
