TIRANA, Dec.7- Alma Totoko詬 flying from Tirana to Milan on Alitalia’s flight AZ 511, was welcomed as TIA’s one millionth passenger in 2007 during a ceremony held at the airport. Alitalia congratulated the passenger and presented her with one free ticket.
“We are very pleased that the increases seen in our figures continue to grow at such a fast rate. The finalization of projects undertaken to improve the infrastructure and the attention paid to the quality of services at Tirana International Airport guarantee that our passenger numbers will be sustained in the future” said Andrea Gebbeken, Chief Executive Officer of TIA at the ceremony.
The number of passengers who have traveled through Tirana International Airport (TIA) within a year reached one million for the first time in Albania’s air transport history, and four years ahead of the airport’s original prediction made in 2005.
The one millionth passenger in a year symbolizes the remarkable growth taking place at the airport. The large increase in the number of passengers has been accompanied by an increase in air traffic movements and an even greater increase in the amount of cargo processed. The infrastructure improvements undertaken at TIA, including the new passenger terminal and access road, along with improvements in the quality of registered services, are regarded as important factors for this progress.
TIA is seeking to increase the number of airlines flying into and out of Tirana. An extension of the passenger terminal, which will increase the handling capacity of the airport by 50 percent, is set to begin in the coming months. This work is being initiated now to accommodate the anticipated further increase in passenger numbers.
