TIRANA, Aug. 31 – The opposition Socialist Party requested over the weekend that parliament begin an investigation into the causes of recent miners’ deaths at the Bulqiza chrome mine.

Socialist leader Edi Rama said that the causes of the Bulqiza tragedies should be revealed and the party would ask the parliament, when it convenes next week, to open an investigation.

Four miners have died in the last three months in the chrome mine operated as a concession by an Austrian company.

The opposition had also asked for the resignation of the government or the Economic Minister after last week’s fourth mining death.
