TIRANA, Oct. 21 – Albania’s Opposition Socialist Party said Sunday that the governing majority of Prime Minister Sali Berisha should do much more to reflect the required standards and commitment to NATO membership.
Ylli Bufi, a Socialist lawmaker who was part of the delegation joining President Bamir Topi during his visit to NATO headquarters last week, said the opposition was in unison with the government on NATO membership efforts.
But Bufi said that the much-needed reforms could not be considered only as a set of draft laws but, rather, should be concrete steps taken.
Bufi attacked the government for the worsening political situation in the country, mentioning the parliamentary commission on the prosecutor general which they consider as a breakdown in the consensus on judicial reform.
The other main problem of concern was electoral reform, which led to the creation of parliamentary commissions, but Bufi said they were actually non-existent or not efficient.
