TIRANA, Nov. 13 – Albanian contemporary artist Orion Shima is showcasing what his calls his 20-year journey from the abstract to the intimate in a solo exhibition at the Casa del Mantegna in Italy’s Mantua.
His “Survival of Images” exhibition which will be open until December 14 features a selection of about 60 works among the most important created by the artist. Francesco Poli, the curator of Shima’s Counter-landscape exhibition at the National Art Gallery back in 2012 describes Shima’s paintings as a free, sensitive and profound expression of a melancholy and nostalgic interpretation of nature that seem to stem from memories, experiences and adolescent reveries. “At the same time, metaphorically, it can be seen as a refined contemplation on the proper nature of painting as an irreplaceable language, something that generates a personal and genuinely poetic vision of universal value.”
