TIRANA, Aug. 8 – What Albanian athletes could not achieve at the London Olympics, was somehow compensated by a gold medal by painter Alfred Mirashi in a collective exhibition organized by the Barbican Centre as part of the London Olympics events. The Italy-based Albanian painter received a gold medal for his “Mediterranean Corner 2011” triptych.
“I am very happy for the medal. Somehow Albania is not leaving empty-handed from the London Olympics,” said Mirashi.
His work will be displayed at the Museum of Modern Arts Beijing which has bought it.
Mirashi, 43 lives in Florence and works in Milan where he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera. His recent works are the result of a search, which has accompanied him through his studies and his travels to London, Barcelona and above all New York, where he could fully immerse himself in one of the most vital art scenes of the world. Removed from his roots, he returned with an even clearer sense of what he wanted to explore in his painting: the impact of the Mediterranean on his personal life. Elevating the personal into the universal, a mythical element enters into his works, which comprises the core of his heritage into an authentic, mythically charged language.
