TIRANA, June 14 – An early settlement believed to have been inhabited since the Paleolithic era has been discovered in Zvernec, in the southern coastal region of Vlora. Novruz Bajrami, an archeologist of the Vlora Regional Directorate of Monuments said some 10,000 items mainly working tools and flints have been discovered in a 3-year period revealing the settlement was inhabited in the Paleolithic, Neolithic and Bronze periods. The discovery is one of the biggest in the country along with that of Shkodra and Saranda where earlier settlements have been discovered. Currently, the items are displayed in the Vlora Directorate of Monuments but part of them will also be taken to the Institute of Monuments of Culture in Tirana. Archeologists say the items will undergo further tests as many of them are believed to date back to earlier periods.
