TIRANA, June 15 – An exhibition featuring the unique characteristics of the southern town of Permet and its surroundings is being displayed at the National History Museum in Tirana. The exhibition by renowned Albanian photographer Roland Tasho is a journey to Permet, the birthplace of national poet Naim Frasheri, bringing mountains, valleys and villages and people of Permet through photos.
“When seeing the landscapes of Permet you understand why Nain Frasheri was so inspired when he wrote about this town,” says Tasho. Characteristic houses, churches, mosques, people wearing traditional costumes are some of the most interesting pictures displayed in the exhibition.
The wonders of Permet exhibit, which opened last Tuesday, will remain open at the National Museum of History until June 24.
Last year, photographer Roland Tasho opened the “I speak Albanian” exhibition featuring the Albanian community living in the United States. Tasho, who has also photographed Albanian immigrant communities in Italy, Greece and Switzerland, said the Albanians in the US were more successful, open and communicative. Some 120 photos of 300 successful Albanians in the United States were displayed in the exhibition.
A well known photographer, Tasho started his career in 1982. After working for nearly 20 years as a photo reporter, he is now a free-lance professional.
Since 1992, his photos have been displayed in more than 40 exhibitions in Albania, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. He is well known for his pictures showing the collapse of the communist regime in the early 90s, the 1997 turmoil and the 1999 exodus of the Kosovo people to Albania following the armed conflict with Serbia.
