“Instead of the Fest and Post Festum formats, the eighth edition of the Poeteka festival was addressed to the confrontation of the authors with the public, readers, moderators and the vital topics in creativity,” says Arjan Leka, the festival’s director

TIRANA, Dec. 18 – The eighth edition of the Poeteka poetry festival came in a different format this year putting writers in front of the public and concentrating on Albanian literature. For three consecutive days, from December 17 to 19 some of Albania’s best writers such as Fatos Kongoli, Visar Zhiti, Zija Cela etc. came together at the TEN centre in Tirana discussing their creative process and issues the society faces covered in their poems also performing public readings.
“Poeteka’s format changes each year. What remains is the word and the written art. This year the accompanying art was the movie and we invited young Albanian directors who underwent kind of critique. Instead of the Fest and Post Festum formats, the eighth edition of the Poeteka festival was addressed to the confrontation of the authors with the public, readers, moderators and the vital topics in creativity,” says Arjan Leka, the festival’s director.
In its previous editions, Poeteka has been held as an international event bringing together poets from the region and all over the world.
The Poeteka International Festival of Poetry and Literature is an annual gathering among writers, art critics, lecturers, essayists and performers from Europe and beyond. This festival which has already went through its initial stages was launched eight years ago in Durres, the country’s second biggest city and one of the most important cultural sites.
For its contribution in its previous editions, Poeteka was awarded “The Best Cultural Event of the Year in Albania” prize by the Kult Academy Awards in 2009.
