TIRANA, July 12 – The embassy of Poland in Albania has decorated Albania’s renowned sculptor Muntaz Dhrami with the “Bene Merito” badge of honour for his two important creations related to Poland.
Muntaz Dhrami, 79, is an eminent sculptor and friend of Poland and an active member of the Society of Albanian-Polish Friendship. He is famous for two creations related to Poland including a monument of Polish geologist Stanisław Zuber, person of merit to Albania, discoverer of oil and minerals in the years 1927-1947, killed after World War II by the communist regime of Enver Hoxha. His monument was inaugurated in the southern town of Kuçova in October 2011.
Dhrami is also known for his latest bas-relief to Tadeusz Mazowiecki, the first noncommunist prime minister in Central and Eastern Europe since the late 1940s. The bas-relief was unveiled last June at one of the key streets in Tirana in a visit by Polish Culture Minister Malgorzata Omilanowska.
