Police appeal for cooperation during the electoral campaign

TIRANA, Feb. 7 – Top policeman Bajram Ibraj distributed Sunday an official document to all police authorities around the country advising how the police forces are to behave impartially during the electoral campaign, according to a news statement from police department. Ibraj also visits regularly different towns every day.
Police have made continuous appeals to the political groupings to cooperate in holding a free and fair electoral campaign, a police statement said Wednesday.
But there have been noticed many small political frictions which have resulted in police involvement as well. Tuesday evening police were told that some persons were tearing down some opposition posters at the Kavaja street in Tirana. It resulted that was a consequence of a conflict between supporters of the two rival candidates in the area. Three persons were penalized because of the quarrel when three men suffered minor injuries from the quarrel.
Unidentified persons broke window glasses of the election authorities’ office in southern Gjirokastra.
In Vlora Mjaft! Nongovernmental organization accused police of physically violating its members being there in an awareness campaign around the country.
