TIRANA, Jan. 29 – Police chief Bajram Ibraj has been intensively visiting different areas in the country in an effort to check how police forces are behaving during the electoral campaign. Ibraj went Tuesday to Korca, Pogradec, Erseke and the Devoll area. Police have published a leaflet in 6,000 copies that is to be distributed to police stations all around the country. Police have held special training sessions with their forces on how to cover the electoral campaign in the country.
Police patrols took Ajant Cako, 33, to their station for tearing down posters at Zogu I Zi crossroad in Tirana, an act which has been repeated very often during the last month. Another arrest was that of Ndoc Dedendreaj, an official of the local authorities of a quarter in Tirana, who was accused of issuing fake birth certificates taken with illegal identification documents from a journalist.
Pal Docaj, 46, was arrested for threatening another local authority official. Police also reported that three opposition members had threatened and beaten a group of youngsters supporting the electoral campaign of the governing Democratic party candidate in the southern city of Gjirokastra on Sunday. In Lushnja police have been checking and trying to arrest Tahir Sharka who has allegedly boxed Ferdinand Sharka, running for the governing Democratic Party-led coalition in the local elections.
