TIRANA, Aug 10 – Police continue to hold operations all over the country to cut cannabis sativa plants just before they are harvested.
This time the operation passed to the southern district of Permet at Frasher commune where police cut more than a thousand drug plants.
What was different this time was the fact that police also took under arrest the head of the commune for not telling of the alleged crime.
That law had been around for some years but authorities were always reluctant to apply it in the villages. Based on that not only the persons who commit the crime but also the head of the village or the commune bears responsibility if drug plants are found in the territory.
It has become normal now that cannabis is planted in no-man’s land but still the head of the commune is responsible for that and should immediately tell police, or be arrested as an accomplice.
The head of the Frasher commune and of Mican village were arrested for not telling that drugs were planted in their areas.
In another operation, police in southernmost Saranda district cut also more than 1,000 cannabis plants at Vergo village. There was no notice that the village head was arrested.
