TIRANA, July 3 – An Algerian had applied for an Albanian passport using false documents, including a false signature on a presidential decree accepting his Albanian citizenship, local media reported Tuesday.
Abbas Mohammed El Mezouar, 48, has been accused of making false documents when he had applied for an Albanian passport last November, according to Shqip newspaper.
El Mezouar had presented a falsified presidential decree declaring he had already won his Albanian citizenship, along with other documents.
After police had found irregularities in his documents, they were sent to the anti-terror unit which then began an investigation into El Mezouar’s identity.
The paper also said that a person named El Mezouar is on an international list of persons wanted for committing terror acts.
The newspaper did not say, however, if the Algerian was detained for questioning, arrested or whether he currently is being held.
