TIRANA, Nov. 28 – The National Museum of History is for the first time displaying the portraits of the 40 signatories of Albania’s declaration of independence on November 28, 1912. The portraits are gifts that researcher Niko Kotherja has made to the National Museum on Albania’s 101st anniversary of independence. The original pen the declaration of independence was signed with is also part of the exhibition at the National Museum of History which will be open on November 29 as part of the White Night celebrations.
Ismail Qemali, a distinguished leader of the Albanian national movement, was the founder of the modern Albanian state and its first head of state and government. Together with Isa Boletini and Luigj Gurakuqi, he raised the flag on the balcony of the two-story building in Vlor롷here the Declaration of Independence had just been signed. He was prime minister of Albania from 1912 to 1914.
