Producer prices continue rising in Q4

TIRANA, Dec. 12 – The Producer Price Index, (PPI) registered another increase during the fourth quarter of 2010, growing by 0.8 percent compared with the third quarter and 0.6 percent year-on-year, according to INSTAT data.
The extractive industry producer prices rose 3 percent compared to the previous quarter and 8.1 percent year-on-year. The index of the extraction of energy products was 13.1 percent up year-on-year. PPI in the extraction of crude oil and natural gas was also 13.1 percent higher than the final quarter of 2010. The processing and agricultural industries also registered slight increases both quarterly and year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the production and distribution of electricity, gas and water dropped 20 percent year-on-year.
PPI for domestic products registered a 1 percent growth compared to the third quarter mainly because of higher prices in the extractive industry which were up 3 percent.
The export price index slightly rose 0.3 percent due to higher prices in the extractive, processing industries.
The index measuring the average change in selling prices received by domestic producers of goods and services over time, showed PPI in the third quarter of 2010, grew by 0.9 percent compared with the second quarter and 0.4 percent year-on-year, according to INSTAT data.
