TIRANA, March 14 – UNESCO launches a two-year project aimed at increasing the accountability of the media in the countries of South-Eastern Europe through developing mechanisms for self-regulation and promoting the concept of collaboration among organizations and media professionals in the region and accelerating harmonization with international standards.
The coup was launched at a meeting organized with the Albanian Media Institute in the Albanian capital, Tirana with 27 participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosova, Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey.
The meeting was to present the project to groups and to examine the conditions for the establishment of self-regulatory mechanisms in different countries as well as potential problems.
The conference participants agreed to continue efforts in self-regulation throughout the region, aided by the UNESCO project.
The project, supported by the European Commission, will end in two years after holding many round tables, seminars and meetings.
