Property of political leaders sparks debate

TIRANA, Aug 11 – The personal property of Prime Minister Sali Berisha and main opposition Socialist Party leader Edi Rama, also Tirana’s mayor, has been at the center of the political debate recently.
The political fight ironically was started by two spokespersons, two young women, from both sides of politics.
Elisa Spiropali of the Socialists said that Berisha should not bring out his party spokeswoman Erla Mehilli to defend how he and his family have become rich during these years. She asked the premier why in the country governed by him only his daughter and son should get rich while the others try to survive.
She just repeated accusation made from the opposition that Berisha’s family members have become rich in the last four years exploiting his position.
While from the Democrats’ side Erla Mehilli reminded Rama he should tell Albanians how 30 construction licenses were given to Mihal Delijorgji, owner of the company that disposed ammunition in Gerdec where the blast last year killed 26 persons.
It seems that politics cannot stay on vacation at these times when all normal people are trying to enjoy the hot season and beauty of the Albanian shores.
The politicians need a tool for the daily fight and to keep the peoples’ minds away from what they are really interested in at the moment, like the economy.
