TIRANA, Nov. 20 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha made a surprise statement while talking in the parliament Tuesday on the 2008 budget when he said that he had cooperated with opposition Socialist leader Edi Rama on electing Bamir Topi as president last July.
It has been widely known until now that it was former Socialist leader Fatos Nano who had ‘ordered’ six of his supporting lawmakers to go and fill the empty votes needed for three-fifths.
But Berisha openly and loudly said that he had collaborated with their leader Rama, in the presence of three other politicians, on electing Topi. He mentioned Neritan Ceka, leader of the small Democratic alliance party, a member of the opposition coalition, as one of them.
