Rare picture shows Albania is visible from Italy

TIRANA, Oct. 2 – A picture taken by Italian photographer Roberto Rocca showing Albanian mountains from Salento of Italy’s Apuglia region has hit the web in the past few days. The rare view which can be seen only in very clear sky features the Sant Emiliono tower in Italy and the Albanian Mountains of the Karaburun peninsula on the background through the Otranto Strait which is only 45 miles from Albania.
New Albanian Tourism Minister Eglantina Gjermeni has also congratulated the Italian photographer.
“The picture has achieved deserved success in Albania with positive comments. Clear and so close, Albania is represented at the same horizon and part of the same sea. This image passes through people and the many countries transforming into visiting card of welcome,” says Albanian Tourism Minister in a letter to the Italian photographer.
Salento is the south-eastern extremity of the Apulia region of Italy. It is a sub-peninsula of the main Italian Peninsula, sometimes described as the “heel” of the Italian “boot.” The Strait of Otranto which connects Albania to Italy is 45 miles long.
