TIRANA, Sep. 28 – A conference bringing together Albanian regional American Corners opened last Tuesday at the premises of the National Library in Tirana. Library director Aurel Plasari, and Culture Minister Ferdinand Xhaferaj addressed the conference, appreciating the American Corners’ importance to Albania and the region. The conference closed its works last Thursday.
U.S. Charge D ‘Affaires Deborah Jones emphasized the importance the embassy pays to American corners promoting American culture and providing information on different issues especially targeting young ages.
According to Jones, the conference was organized following the success of American corners in Albania and was aimed at exchanging ideas and experience.
The mission of each American Corner in Albania is to be a partner in promoting mutual understanding between the United States and Albania.
Currently, there are three American Corners in Albania, in Tirana, Vlora and in Kuk쳮 The American Corner in Tirana is a resource center, but also hosts a wide variety of events, such as cultural programs and guest lectures from U.S, presentations, film and video showings, poetry readings, conversational hours, Readers Club, Kids’ clubs and story hours, workshops and many other events.
All services are free. The American Corner program is sponsored worldwide by the U.S. Department of State.
