TIRANA, April 16 – Albanian businesses in the Balkan region have joined to establish a National Chamber of Commerce. Businesses from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and the Presevo Valley announced on Wednesday the establishment of the National Chamber of Commerce, an initiative of the Kosovo Business Alliance and the Business Albania Association.
The announcement was made in Kukes, northeastern Albania, during a ceremony commemorating the 15th anniversary of the massive exodus of Kosovars to Albania following an armed conflict with Serbia.
Agim Shahini, the head of the Kosovo Business Alliance said the Chamber would further strengthen ties among Albanian-speaking businesses in the region.
“The national economy is a huge potential which remains unexploited by Albanian entrepreneurs. With this initiative, both the Albanian and Kosovo government commit to support the joint initiatives for a friendlier business climate,” said Shahini.
Prime Minister Edi Rama who visited Kukes along with Kosovo counterpart Hashim Thaci described the deal as “a significant event in a significant day. The establishment of the National Chamber of Commerce is a new idea for a new reality,” wrote Prime Minister Rama in his Twitter account.
