6552-roh_rigoletto_production_image_ashmoreRigoletto, an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, is making its comeback at the National Theater of Opera and Ballet to open the new season. Directed by Albania’s Nikolin Gurakuqi, the famous opera will bring on stage sopranos Linda Kazani and Vikena Kamenica, tenor Ylber Gjini and Georgian baritone Gocha Abduladze. The symphonic orchestra of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet will be conducted by Spain’s J. Manuel Busto. The opera which made its Albania premiere in 1965 is scheduled to stage on January 21, 23, 24 and 25 at 19:00.

In his Rigoletto opera, Verdi brings a melodrama of passion, betrayal, love and revenge. The Italian libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave based on the play “The King’s Fool” by Victor Hugo. It was first performed at La Fenice in Venice on March 11, 1851. Rigoletto is considered by many to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi’s middle-to-late career.
