TIRANA, Feb. 7 – UK-based R&B singer Rita Ora has been handed two special gifts by the Albanian government for her international achievement and promoting the values of the Albanian nation around the world. In a ceremony held at the Albanian embassy in London this week, Ora was handed a 100-year-old national costume from the Shkodra Highlands, northern Albania, and a set of coins issued by the Bank of Albania on the centenary of the country’s independence.
Speaking at the ceremony, Albanian ambassador to the U.K, Mal Berisha, described Rita Ora as the best British-Albanian portrait on stage preserving her links with the national heritage.
“Rita Ora is the best ambassador of Kosovo where she was born, of Albania which loves her so much and the Albanian people in the Balkans or Diaspora,” said Ambassador Mal Berisha.
Thanking the Albanian government for the presents, Ora described the support by the Albanian people and her home country Kosovo as very precious for her.
Rita Ora was the top performer in a concert held in Tirana on November 28, 2012, to mark Albania’s 100th anniversary of independence.
In 2012, Ora, 22, released her debut album, “Ora”, which debuted at number one in the United Kingdom. It also spawned three number-one singlesעHot Right Now”, “How We Do (Party)” and “R.I.P.” which made Ora the first artist in 2012 to have three consecutive number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart.
Rita Ora was born in 1990 in Pristina, to Kosovar-Albanian parents and moved to the United Kingdom when she was only year old.
