“Happy 100th independence day, I’m honoured,” wrote the Kosovo singer on her Twitter profile

TIRANA, Nov. 29 – Famous Kosovo-born, UK-based R&B singer Rita Ora performed in Tirana in the evening of November 28 in front of thousands of supporters who defied rain to attend an open-air concert marking Albania’s 100th anniversary of independence. The famous singer was accompanied by Prime Minister Sali Berisha when she went on stage. “Albania you were unbelievable, you are a dream come true, I know it was raining but we still rocked it! Happy 100th independence day, I’m honoured,” wrote the singer on her Twitter profile. Last September, the singing sensation went to her hometown Prishtina to record her latest music video also giving a concert there.
Last summer, Ora, 22, released her debut album, “Ora”, which debuted at number one in the United Kingdom. It also spawned three number-one singlesעHot Right Now”, “How We Do (Party)” and “R.I.P.” which made Ora the first artist in 2012 to have three consecutive number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart.
The big concert in the Mother Teresa square in Tirana’s central boulevard was one of the dozens of events held in the capital but also the southern coastal city of Vlora, where Albania’s independence from the Ottoman empire was declared 100 years ago.
Covered in national flags and portraits of national hero Skanderbeg and independence leader Ismail Qemali, Tirana marked the centenary of anniversary with three days of celebrations.
Concerts, exhibitions, the inauguration of some new monuments, a Made-in Albania products trade fair and giant red and black 14 tonne-cake were some of the events the Municipality of Tirana held from November 26 to 28 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the country’s declaration of independence.
