Rona Nishliu becomes top Albanian Eurovision performer

TIRANA, May 30 – Rona Nishliu has become the most successful Albanian Eurovision representative after ranking fifth among 26 finalists in the 2012 song contest held in Azerbaijan. After a thrilling performance which she dedicated to the victims of the bus accident in southern Albania, Rona collected 146 points to see herself rank 5th, the best result since 2004 when Albania made its Eurovision debut with Anjeza Shahini who came sixth.
The 26-year old Kosovo singer representing Albania was compared by foreign media to Aretha Franklin or the queen of “funk” music, Chaka Khan.
Albania got full points from Italy, Macedonia, Switzerland and San Marino, and 10 points from Belgium, Greece, Montenegro.
Sweden’s Loreen won the 2012 Eurovision edition with Russia and Serbia ranking second and third.
