TIRANA, Dec. 22 – Nina Mula, one the greatest Albanian sopranos, passed away on Thursday at the age of 80 after suffering from a serious disease. The Russian born soprano, and the mother of internationally acclaimed Inva Mula, arrived in Albania in 1957 along with her Albanian husband Avni Mula whom she met in the Moscow Conservatory.
Soon after her arrival in Albania, Nina Mula was appointed a soloist in the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet where she performed dozens of lead roles in international ballet pieces such as the Barber of Sevilla, the Eugene Onegin, Madame Butterfly, The Marriage of Figaro etc.
She received dozens of awards in Albania including the Naim Frasheri Order named after Albania’s national poet.
Nina Mula celebrated her 80th birthday last month in a gala ceremony organized by the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet which surprised the veteran soprano with a video conversation with her Paris-based daughter, internationally renowned soprano Inva Mula.
