TIRANA, September 7 – A special exhibition featuring artworks by Russian painter Valeri Dyrzi Tarasov will be open at the National Arts Gallery in Tirana starting from September 10.
The exhibition features 31 paintings divided into two cycles, the “Pass-Port” and the “Habitat Dis Habitat” displaying 20 and 11 compositions respectively, said the gallery in a statement.
Tarasov says “the Pass-Port cycle is an artistic action seeking to offer the opportunity to reflect on the contemporary reality, characterized by a kaleidoscope of mosaic of cultures, which does not find an answer in the bureaucracy archives, but in a carrier of cultures, allowing one to freely interpret identities, often downtrodden and misinterpreted in border checkpoints.”
Meanwhile, the painter describes the “Habitat Dis Habitat” cycle as an intention to explore the imaginary world of the living places. “For the artist, living is not only an economic aspect or desire. Living is also a cultural, ecological and circumstantial aspect. Through environment, humans express their adaptation or rejection.”
The 54-year-old self-taught artist lives and works in Italy, where he was granted political asylum 20 years ago.
His painting, installation and sculpture works have been successfully displayed in Italy, France, Russia, Hungary. His works have received critical acclaim in some of Italy’s most influential media and are part of museum collections in the cities of Lecce and Bari.
The exhibition is held under the auspices of Albanian Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli and will be open until September 20.
