TIRANA, Jan. 05 – Russian play Three Sisters will open the new season at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana. This year the National Theatre promises to bring great performances, as well as improve the Theatre hall’s heating conditions.
Three Sisters, one of the best plays of Russian author and playwright Anton Chekhov, will have its premiere on January 16 and 17. The play will be directed by Hervin Culi, the director of the National Theatre.
While it is not the first time Culi works with Chekhov’s plays, it is the first time Chekhov’s Three Sisters comes to Albania. Starring Neritan Licaj, Olta Gixhari, Helidon Fino, Elia Zaharia, Gladiola Harizaj, and many others, the play will have scenography by Kristo Cala and costumes designed by Berina Kokona.
Regarding the latest problems with the heating conditions, Culi said that the theatre’s old heating system was broken during the last month, while the pedestrian street was being build.
“To be honest, this has been a difficult month not only for us, but for the public as well, because we have not been able to warm up the theatre hall. […] Apologies for that, but in January, when Three Sisters will premiere, the National Theatre’s central heating will be fully operational and the theater will return to its normal conditions,” Culi said.
He added that the new heating system is being installed and will be ready by January 15, 2015.
The Russian play is one of the National Theatre’s 22 projects for the 2015-2017 period. Among the 22 projects, only two plays are Albanian, selected by Altin Basha, while the other 20 will be foreign plays. Three Sisters was written in 1900 and first premiered on January 31, 1901 at the Moscow Art Theatre.
