TIRANA, June 18 – Few weeks after opening its 2014 summer tourist season, Albania’s southernmost coastal town of Saranda is hosting an international film festival in an effort to give a boost to tourism in this destination, considered the pearl of the Albanian Riviera.
Launched on June 17, the Dea Open Air International Festival is showcasing seven feature films and 26 short films, most of which European ones.
“The international film festival in Saranda is an activity which aims to make Saranda a center for the meeting of the cineastes, producers and mostly distributors of the film industry almost like Sarajevo and Thessaloniki. Thanks to its geographic position, climate, hospitality and its wonderful landscape, Saranda has all the possibilities for being an attraction for the foreign cineastes.”
The city is located only 15 km from the ancient Butrint and 50 km from the characteristic city of Gjirokastra, both of which are UNESCO Heritage sites. The festival will take place from 17 to 21 June of 2014 with the main screening site being an open air cinema in the Saranda promenade.
