TIRANA, Oct. 11- The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September 2006 resulted 109.3 per cent against December 2001 (December 01=100) with an increase of 0.6 percent against the previous month, the Institute of Statistics reported Wednesday. The annual rate in September was 2.6 percent. A year earlier the rate was 3.1 percent.
The “Food and nonalcoholic beverage” group saw a decrease of 0.9 percent. Within this group the “vegetables include potatoes” subgroup had decrease prices of 6.5 percent. There was also a decrease of tomatoes of 26.7 percent, fresh bean of 11.3 percent, cucumber of 8.2 percent, okra of 6.2 percent, pepper of 4.7 percent etc. The “fruits” subgroup had a decrease of 1.5 percent, where it may be mentioned the decrease of grapes by 13.9 per cent, apple 9.8 percent, cucumber by 5.4 percent, etc. The “Clothing and footwear” group saw a decrease of 0.2 percent. Within this group the”clothing” subgroup had a decrease by 0.2 percent and the “footwear” subgroup by 0.4 percent. The “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” group had an increase of 4.9 percent, where it may be mentioned the increase of cigarettes by 6.9 percent. The “Rent, water power and electricity” group had an increase of 2.6 percent. The “Transport” group had an increase of 0.3 percent, with air fares 0.7 percent higher. The price of fuel oil had a decrease of 0.4 percent. While the monthly price index changes in the other groups vary from – 0.1 per cent to +0.8 percent.
