SMI officials face vote-buying charges, sackings during campaign

TIRANA, June 6 – Two representatives of Albania’s third largest party, the Socialist Movement for Integration, are to face vote-buying charges that could land them in jail, authorities said. Gledjon Rehovica, an SMI lawmaker, and Idlir Frashà«ri, the politically-appointed manager of the Berat Regional Hospital, were charged by police following an investigation into allegations of graft and political involvement where it is not allowed by law. The two officials where charged under the harsher new laws on active corruption in elections and use of public office in political or electoral activities.
