TIRANA, Feb. 11- The Socialist movement for Integration, considering the alarming rise in prices, has proposed an alternative solution for keeping general inflation at bay. In a press conference, SMI secretary for agriculture and environment, Edmond Panariti, has declared that food prices will keep going up because this trend is not spontaneous but is in direct proportion to Albania’s dependency on imports. The declining local production and the rising level of imports are signs that prices are hard to control because they are not fully dependent upon internal developments. The government should not be indifferent, SMI has argued, because inflation is increasing poverty and has called upon the administration to learn from the Macedonian experience. To this end and purpose SMI proposes that the government should soon create food reserves in order to create a balancing effect in the cases where the market jumps.
