At an archaeological conference organized in Thessalonica covered by the Greek press, it was announced that archaeological excavations at Dion, Greece unearthed a statue of the Goddess Hera that dates back to Century II. According to Dimitris Pandermalis, (archaeologist), who has directed excavation work for 20 years now in the zone of Dion, Epirus, Northern Greece, the head of the statue has been lost, but the body is that of a woman who is seated on a throne wearing a tunic and sandals. The statue that is 1.5 meters in length was found in the inner walls of the sacred city of Dion, an ensemble of buildings devoted to the worship of the Gods of Mt. Olympus, as the archaeologist specifies. Not long ago, in the same location, a statue of Zeus was found and Pandermalis believes that the third part, a statue of the Goddess Athina is buried in zone which has still not been excavated. The discovery of the statues of several Gods during these excavations, makes the experts think that the figures that made up the temple dedicated to Zeus have disappeared forever due to floods or natural calamities, Pandermalis says.
