TIRANA, Dec 8 – Despite the significant fall, recently, in world oil prices, up to $45 per barrel, fuel prices in Albania have seen only small decreases, not consistent with what is happening in the world market.
Diesel and petrol price have recently fallen another five leks to 115 and 120 leks per liter, though compared to the time when oil was at this price three years ago it might have been much lower than current prices.
Energy Minister Genc Ruli recently said that the price of oil in Albania is justified by the fact that the country, or the wholesale companies in the fuel market, do not possess large deposits and always refer to the spot price, added with the tax burden and that of loading and unloading oil.
However, consumers become nervous not only because of high oil prices, but also because of the low quality fuel for sale.
