TIRANA, July 4 – Government authorities have employed hundreds of students, in an effort to urge them stay in the country rather than emigrate. Like many newly developing countries, Albania is trying to prevent the ongoing ‘brain drain’ that has significantly affected the post-communist development.

The taxation department has hired scores of students from the faculty of economics.

Students first apply and then are interviewed. The students hired will receive training by the department’s experts, and if there are any free posts they will be the first to be hired upon graduation.

Another goal in hiring students is to change the work ethic in government departments, since students do not carry the mentality of corruption so predominant in public institutions and which is negatively affecting the government’s daily work.

The temporary employment program continues for three months.
