TIRANA, Sept. 17 – “You Called Me Jacky,” a project by Swiss visual artist Pipilotti Rist is the latest exhibition that has opened at the Promenade Gallery of the southern coastal city of Vlora. “You Called Me Jacky” features Rist’s lip-synching to the title song “Edna & Jacky” by Kevin Coyne. Her image superimposed with fleeting images seen from the window of a moving train. Miming with exaggerated gestures or vamping in convincing imitation of star singers, even as she flubs her lines, Rist negotiates the music-film format’s claims to slickness and production values as well as its desire for raw authenticity.
Born in 1962 in Grabs, Pipilotti Rist lives and works between Zurich and Somerset. After studying applied arts, illustration, photography and visual communication in Vienna and Basel, she founded the all-female Klezmer pop band Les Reines Prochaines.
