TIRANA, Sep. 28 – Five other senior officials of the taxation department were arrested last week and accused of corruption and abuse of their position.
In an operation codenamed Clean Hands, police arrested Gramoz Veliu, 41, Xheladin Brakola, 40, Rruzhdi Sina, 38, Naim Sina, 44, and Namik Taullahu, 54, all working with the taxation department in Lushnje, where they are suspected of collaborating with each other to falsify documents for private companies.
The companies profited by not paying taxes in exchange for bribes to the above-mentioned persons.
They have been investigated for two months.
