TIRANA, May 4 – No much need to be said about the absolute sold out of theatrical Athens. Christos Hatzipanagiotis, Vicky Stavropoulou, Dimitris Mavropoulos, and Joyce Evidi star in the great success “Family-in-law from Tirana” which has been presented dozens of times in Greek theatres. The story of two wealthy families in the Greek countryside and the “invasion” of an Albanian groom shattering the life of a complete rural town.
Having as its main axis our postmodern racism, which has linked the word “Albanian” with the word “suspect”, this is a play that absorbs the entire madness of corruption and populism – which at the surface are irrelevant to racism, but are symptoms of the same illness – and creates and explosive comedy.
The successful theatrical play “In- Laws from Tirana”(“Sympetheroi apo ta Tirana”), written by Thanasis Papathanasiou and Michalis Reppas has celebrated 500 performances and 40,000 tickets, Greek media report. It is impressive, that this theatrical play attracts many Albanians and many Albanian newspapers. Albanian newspapers wrote about it and hosted interviews with the actors. “The truth is that the play attracts many Albanians, who live in Greece. They all enjoy the play and they are very enthusiastic about it! I could not expect that our play would be so successful”, said Michalis Reppas, who has written many successful plays in the past.
