TIRANA, May 8 – A report issued by French experts of organized crime said that Albania’s society and authorities will have to join forces and fight for many years against Mafia groups that dominate the country.
The report, made available to the Koha Jone newspaper, writes that there are 15 Mafia clans in the country. They are organized according to the Italian style but also reflecting the Kanun traditions in the country.
They are based on the family links that are further spread to the areas.
The report says the Mafia groups have very stable financial resources which they have invested in many companies, to assist in laundering their money.
Fighting organized crime has become a main topic of concern for the country’s government and also a precondition as it seeks to join international institutions.
Post-communist Albania has become a country of origin and a transit for weapons, human and drug trafficking.
